Helen Grobert takes third place in Heubach

Helen Grobert, Lisi Osl, and Anne Terpstra took advantage of the chance to measure up against the international competition at the Bundesliga race in Heubach, Germany.

Helen Grobert delivered the team’s best result with her third-place finish. Lisi Osl and Anne Terpstra finished in ninth and tenth place after switching positions numerous times in extremely muddy terrain

Anne Terpstra was pretty happy with her tenth place finish confirming a real upward trend during the last weeks of training.

“These past weeks, things went much better at home and I think that I am slowly getting close to being in the kind of shape I was in last year. I felt good today and thought that the others actually started off really slow.” After the first lap, the Dutch Champion found herself at Gunn-Rita Dahle’s heels in second place. “In the second lap, I started losing some ground, but was still able to ride a good and steady race.”

Lisi Osl saw a lot of positives in her race, but also reflected on what didn’t go so well.

“Looking at the result alone, this race surely did not stand out and does not look that great on paper. But looking back, I realize that I was able to ride a steady race and didn’t trail the top riders by a lot. During the descents, I was unlucky and got stuck behind other riders a few times. But that alone was not the decisive factor. After the tough training during the last few weeks focusing on the World Championships and the upcoming World Cup competitions, this was definitely a solid result.”

Helen Grobert was more than happy and described her race as “the perfect preparation and a super training run” for the task at hand.

“I am happy that my coach and the team almost forced me to ride this race.

The atmosphere here always just blows you away. But, to be honest, the course doesn’t really suit me. That’s why I am thrilled about how well things went here. I was able to set my training stimuli perfectly and handled the conditions well. My bike was just out of this world – as always – and given the muddy terrain, you can’t take this for granted.” Right from the start, Helen Grobert rode in a quartet splitting second through sixth place among them.

The eventual winner had already broken away at that point.

Helen from the Black Forest was able to secure the second place in this group and finished the race in third place. In addition, the German Champion can be especially proud of her nomination to the Olympic Games through the German Cycling Federation BDR. “Last week, I rode a spur of the moment little marathon in my neck of the woods in Remetschwiel and was able to win it.

Regardless of that race, I got the call from the National Coach that evening informing me that I was nominated for one of the two German spots in Rio.

I was so happy and it is a great honor to have earned the trust of the National Coach. We still have to wait for the confirmation by the German Olympic Sports Confederation DOSB, but I already want to thank everyone – family, friends, coach, and team – for making all this possible and supporting me up to this point. Naturally, I do hope for positive news and the confirmation of the nomination by the end of June. There are only two weeks left until the World Championships and I am really looking forward to the big upcoming races.”

Lisi Osl will compete in her home race in Kirchberg in the Kitzbueheler Alps next week.

One week later, the entire team will travel to the World Championships in Nove Mesto, the Czech Republic, followed by the World Cup race in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
